Detoxification is a term that has many meanings, ranging from removing someone from a harmful, illicit substance to fasting for long periods of time.  For the average individual, neither of these are a real fit, but detoxification aimed at supporting the inherent detox systems of the body may be a good choice.

Rather than think of detox as a concept, let’s make it as a more defined process.  Detox as it is used to describe what happens in the body is a real process that takes place on a daily basis.  There are 5 organ systems that are involved that include the skin, lungs, kidneys, liver and bowels.  It is through these systems that we are able to rid our bodies of not only the toxins that we are exposed to, but also those that we produce within.

  2. Avoidance of known allergenic foods that may inhibit bowel function such as dairy and gluten.
  3. Adequate consumption of anti-inflammatory, health promoting foods, such as vegetables and fruits.
  4. Promotion of adequate liver function by supporting phase 1 and 2 detox systems through specific nutrients.
  5. Exercise to increase your internal temperature and promote clearance of toxins through the skin and lungs.
  6. Consuming regular water to promote flushing toxins and unwanted metabolites out through the kidneys.
Following these 6 ideas consistently will lead to a healthier, happier you, free of many toxins and avoiding chronic diseases.
